Resumen
La adenomiosis es una patología ginecológica que se caracteriza por síntomas como dolor pélvico, sangrado uterino anormal e infertilidad, lo que impacta significativamente en la salud de las mujeres. Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar una revisión de la literatura existente centrada en su etiopatogenia, manifestaciones clínicas, herramientas de diagnóstico por imagen y opciones terapéuticas, con el fin de proporcionar información actualizada que permita conocer mejor esta enfermedad.
El diagnóstico definitivo está basado en estudios histológicos, pero las técnicas de imagen como la ecografía transvaginal y la resonancia magnética han permitido avances significativos en su detección. En cuanto a su etiopatogenia existen dos teorías principales: la invaginación del endometrio y la metaplasia de restos embriológicos.
Los abordajes terapéuticos incluyen desde tratamientos médicos conservadores, como el uso de dispositivos intrauterinos hormonales, hasta intervenciones quirúrgicas, como la histerectomía. Clínicamente, la adenomiosis afecta negativamente la fertilidad y aumenta los riesgos obstétricos, lo que refuerza la necesidad de un manejo integral y especializado.
